Rooted In The Farm

Farm Credit Services Headquarters

Farm Credit Services Headquarters

Farm Credit Services of Mid-America - an agricultural lender with operations in four states - has a long and storied history of helping those living in rural and agricultural communities receive quality and low-cost financing. As the company began to grow, it needed a new place to call home and JRA Architects was commissioned to design the new building.

During our exploratory process with the Farm Credit, it quickly became apparent that the company wanted to improve interdepartmental communication, so we provided an environment that enhanced their “teaming” philosophy. Another requirement that was critical for the new building was that it be flexible enough to accommodate future growth and changes within the company. Ever-changing technologies that influence how Farm Credit operates, the potential for increased headcount, and the collaborative workplace approach required a flexible design plan, that could accommodate reconfigurable office environments. The building’s exterior design resembles “prairie style” architecture. The vision of this design style was to capture the identity of Farm Credit as an agricultural lender. Limestone banding, red iron spot brick, and a copper roof helped us achieve that vision for the exterior palate.

Within the entry lobby stands a 38-foot tall steel tree structure. This sculptural piece reinforces the company’s philosophy of its roots being planted deeply in the ground—strong and steady are its branches, always reaching out to the farming community.
