Bring Your “A” Game

University of Kentucky Wildcat Coal Lodge

University of Kentucky Wildcat Coal Lodge

Wildcat Coal Lodge - the residence hall for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball program - houses one of our state’s most beloved treasures. To say Kentucky is passionate about its basketball is to sell the sentiment short, so when JRA Architects was asked to design the team’s new living facility, we knew we’d better bring our “A” game.

The new 24,000 square foot building is situated adjacent to the Joe Craft Center, the team’s existing practice facility on which the Coal Lodge’s design was based. The similarities in design create a visual cohesion to provide the players a sense of continuity from their practice space to their residence. The lodge is adorned with UK basketball memorabilia including past championships, NBA stars, and other motivational graphics as the space is meant to inspire both the players and visiting recruits. The new lodge features combination living/bedroom spaces, a common space for gathering and interaction, and a dedicated dining room.

JRA Architects has collaborated with the University of Kentucky to create new spaces on campus that help inspire everything from learning to research to athletics, and we feel a tremendous sense of pride in that type of work which positively impacts our community.
